51956 - Webcams: Is this the biggest snowfall of the year?

It's coming down out there! The western Alps are currently experiencing a major snowfall, with more than 50cm having fallen in the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. Austria is not so lucky, although the Arlberg region has some flurries. Our colleagues Mike and Miranda are currently in Nendaz enjoying the fresh snow!

Wind, snow and more snow

It's been quite the day in the western Alps, with strong winds and heavy precipitation. Unfortunately, the snow line is hovering higher than 1500m above sea level, meaning the precipitation is coming down in the form of rain on the lower slopes and villages. As the night falls we hope this will turn to snow in some places. Remember, if you're out skiing in the fresh powder, pay attention to avalanche warnings and stay on-piste where advised to do so by authorities.

About Danielle

Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
