51166 - Good morning winter! Snowy webcam pictures

What a lovely morning it's been in the Alps! Last night the snow began to fall in earnest and this morning ski resorts woke up to a blanket of white. We've got some drool-worthy webcam pictures to share with you - come check it out!

Snow line falling

After last week's warm spell, temperatures have finally dropped in the last few days. The snow line has also fallen, bringing fresh snow to some of the higher-altitude valleys. The snow line lies around 1300m in the northeastern Alps and 2400m in the southwest.

Weather forecast for the next few days

The snow will continue to fall today and tomorrow in many parts of Austria, with rain at lower altitudes. After that, skies will clear until Sunday, when there is more fresh snow in the forecast. Over in France and Switzerland, the snow won't arrive until tomorrow morning, but we can expect fresh snow here as well at the weekend. Zermatt and Val Thorens are expecting as much as 20cm of snow. Unfortunately for Italy, there's little chance of precipitation until the weekend. However, starting Sunday resorts like Val Gardena and Alta Badia may also receive around 20cm of snow.

About Danielle

Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
