It's unbelievable... this week's weather forecast calls for not centimetres, but METRES of snow! It's been snowing nonstop in the Alps these past few weeks and tomorrow morning is expected to bring another metre of snow to many parts of the southern Alps. After that, snowing every day and even more on the weekend!
This winter it's the southern Alps that will be cashing in on most of the snow. In the Dolomites, the Italian Alps and parts of Switzerland it's snow, snow and more snow. Austria will also benefit from the windfall, albeit in smaller quantities. What about France? Currently it's a lot calmer in the French Alps, although the southern Alps should get some fresh snow on Thursday. All in all an incredible week for the Alps, and a welcome start to ski season! If you're going skiing during the insane snowfall, remember to stay safe, stay on the groomed pistes and follow the safety advisories. Several unlucky skiers and snowboarders have already died in an avalanche this season.
Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
