Park City in short

  • Excellent powder snow
  • Challenging terrain for expert skiers
  • Good array of on-mountain restaurants

Originally a ski area in its own right, Canyons merged with Park City Mountain back in 2014 to create one of the largest combined ski areas in the US. Canyons and Park City each have a small base area with ticket windows, rental shops and a few retail shops and restaurants. There is some ski-in, ski-out accommodation at these bases but most people choose to stay in Park City. The Town Lift at Park City Mountain Resort will bring you directly to Park City’s Main Street. Canyons is the larger of the two bases, having been a base for the Canyons ski area before merging with Park City Mountain. It boasts several high-end restaurants and hotels, and is the best bet for a spot of après-ski.

Today, you can explore both Canyons and Park City on one pass. Both ski areas have an assortment of on-mountain restaurants and a healthy dose of steep chutes and challenging gladed runs. Park City Mountain is more suitable for beginners, with several nursery slopes and plenty of gentle intermediate slopes. With 7 snow parks (including one superpipe) across the two ski areas, the mountain draws lots of freestylers, especially in light of the fact that snowboarding is not allowed at nearby Deer Valley. Canyons recently installed the Orange Bubble Chairlift, the first heated chairlift in the US. A note of caution, it may be tempting to cross the fence into the Deer Valley ski area but this is prohibited as they are two completely different resorts.
