The sixth edition of the European Gay Ski Week will be held in the popular ski resort of Alpe d'Huez from the 22nd to the 29th of March 2014. This is the fourth time that gay skiers from all over Europe will get together for seven days of wild celebration on the famous ski slopes of the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine ski area. A packed program of live music and entertainment is lined up in the après-ski bars and nightclubs of the resort, and where necessary, available in all languages! Once the skiing stops, the party starts!

European Gay Ski Week - a great skiing program!

With the existence of the Gay Games, a quadriennial athletic and cultural event for homosexual athletes, both men and women, proves that the gay community has a privileged relationship with sport, and of course, being in good shape, is essential. It is therefore logical that the European Gay Ski Week (EGSW) is first focused on skiing and snowboarding. Because, even though the organisers have installed the heart of the event in Alpe d'Huez, at the foot of its 135 ski runs, they have also planned bus connections to larger neighboring ski resorts. This will allow participants to discover Les 2 Alpes, Serre Chevalier and even Sestrière in Italy. The more experienced skiers and snowboarders, provided they are accompanied by a professional guide, will also get the chance to experience the thrills of off-piste skiing in the secured off-piste area of La Grave, just a few kilometers from Alpe d' Huez. The race is on to cover 1,200 km of slopes and off-piste routes in just 7 days!

Non-stop partying for the European Gay Ski Week

Even though skiers and snowboarders taking part in the European Gay Ski Week must be exhausted after their day on the slopes, there seems to be no stopping them once the sun sets! It’s easy to understand why once you’ve taken part in this event as some of the best artists and musicians of the gay scene across Europe perform in the après-ski bars , discotheques and stages set up in the ski resort centre. From Saturday, March the 22nd, the Igloo hosts the first event of the festival - a welcome party hosted by the famous drag queen Heidi Liscious. All bars and clubs of the resort get involved and offer each in turn a highlight of this week's party : the Caves de l’Alpe welcomes Tim Jones on the 23rd for an evening which organizers specify will be sweaty and full of testosterone; on Wednesday the 26th the Sporting is where the party will be at with sets from Manuel Rotondo (from Rome) and other artists. In fact, until March the 29th, all closing times have been changed to simply indicate "late"!

European Gay Ski Week’s Pool Party - not to be missed!

Symbol of the boundless imagination of the organizers, the highlight of the European Gay Ski Week will be the Pool Party planned in the municipal swimming pool, located in the Palais des Sports of the resort! This usually quiet, family venue will be transformed for one night into a giant dance floor, in the theme of a Cruise with floating bars, hosts and hostesses wearing suggestive costumes, floats and colorful cocktails abound : it's a kind of Ibiza which has been invited to the slopes of Les Grandes Rousses! On the decks, we will find Adam Turner, from London, where he is a resident of Popcorn, the famous gay-friendly club. And of course the pool party would not be what it is, without a laser light show... It’s only during the European Gay Ski Week that we see tourists in Alpe d'Huez shorten their day of skiing to get ready for the evening fun and games!

About Gareth

Skiing was something that was sort of forced on me as a child. When my parents signed me up for the school ski trip when I was 11, I think I sulked for a whole month! However, I have no idea how to thank them as I haven’t looked back since!
