Hinterglemm is often mentioned in the same breath as its neighbour Saalbach, but in reality they are two villages, each with their own distinct character. Vehicles in Hinterglemm are diverted through a tunnel and as such the village centre is car-free, with a lively atmosphere. Hinterglemm is regarded as an après-ski destination par excellence.
Hinterglemm has undergone significant changes over the years. For many years the ski resort was a Dutch enclave, but with the construction of luxury hotels and high-end facilities such as a casino, the village has in recent years attracted a different clientèle. Snow sports enthusiasts have more than 250km of slopes to explore in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, and there are numerous hiking and cross-country skiing trails in the vicinity. A highlight is the tree-top trail which passes over the "Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps". Hinterglemm remains a versatile village with plenty to offer both on and off the slopes.

“Lots of people in the town made for a good atmosphere. The ski area is also great for everyone, with both easy and difficult pistes. Big enough so you can ski a...„ |
The pistes at Hinterglemm lie on both sides of the village, meaning you can ski in the sun all day long. The link with Fieberbrunn's ski area in the 15/16 ski season made the Skicircus one of the largest linked ski areas in Austria, with more than 250km of pistes. The ski area is so large it's even possible to take day trips without skiing the same piste twice. Experts can tackle the black slopes on the Schattberg, while beginners can enjoy the gentle valley runs. For a unique experience, try night skiing on a piste near the Unterschwarzachlift in Hinterglemm, available Monday through Saturday.
Hinterglemm is an excellent option for snowboarders and freestyle skiers. Nearby the village and the Unterschwarzlift is a world-class snow park, the Nightpark. Here you'll find a wallride, a 22m-long combi-box, a 9m-long C-Rail and various large kickers. And why is it called the Nightpark, you may wonder? The snow park is open until 10:30pm, every day except Sunday.
Hinterglemm has established itself in recent years as a family-friendly destination, in large part thanks to the child-friendly Snowly Land. Here, children as young as 3 years old can make their first tracks on skis, assisted by a magic carpet, a practice area, fun games and the Snowly Express. Snowly, the friendly mascot, will make sure all children are having a good time. Meanwhile, older children can enrol in regular ski lessons, which culminate with a slalom race on Thursdays.
Together, Saalbach and Hinterglemm have made a name for themselves as an après-ski hotspot in Austria. The pubs fill up by 4pm and stay rocking until late into the night. Chic Saalbach offers a refined après-ski experience, while Hinterglemm is the wilder of the two. In the Goaßstall and the Hexenhäusl the beer flows freely and skiers and snowboarders sing along lustily to the latest après-ski hits. Several of the local bars are frequently considered among the top après-ski bars in the Alps.
A ski holiday isn't a ski holiday if you don't go tobogganing! Hinterglemm offers a 3.2km tobogganing track on the Reiterkogel, open Monday through Saturday until 11pm. For an alternative to tobogganing, try snowtubing on the Unterschwarzachlift. The 120m-long track offers lots of fun for all ages.
