The days when we had to struggle to work out maps are long past. Nowadays, the GPS can tell you everything! But has this dependence on technology perhaps affected our ability to think for ourselves? One tourist in Garmish-Partenkirchen found this out the hard way recently when his GPS led him slightly astray... onto a ski slope!

Long live GPS

We all love exploring new ski areas, and what better way to do so than from the comfort of your own car? Lesson learned: following your GPS and ignoring all the road signs (and piste signs) doesn't always work out for the best.

A new style of skier on the slopes

The unsuspecting driver steered his vehicle onto the slopes of the Hausberg on Sunday morning around 11:00am. He got stuck in the deep snow after just a few metres (this is why we always insist on freshly groomed pistes). As you can see in the webcam photos from Foto-webcam.eu, he had plenty of help in trying to push the car back off the piste.

Towed by a pistenbully

Alas, the car was stuck well and good in the snow, and in the end the man had to enlist the services of a pistenbully to help free the vehicle. It wasn't until around 3pm - four hours after the original incident - that the driver was able to be on his way again. So, we're thinking he's probably going to opt for the ski bus next time.
