50413 - Two new lifts for Livigno

Following the inauguration of the Carosello 3000 gondola in December 2017, the Italian ski resort of Livigno has opened two more new lifts to further modernise the ski area. A new chairlift and a connecting gondola have been installed on the Mottolino "Fun" Mountain. Service has also been improved by regular shuttles between Livigno's two ski areas this season. Here's everything you need to know about the new lifts.

Child-friendly Yepi chairlift

The 6-person Yepi chairlift was inaugurated on December 21, 2018 in the Mottolino ski area. It's a child-friendly lift with an extra safety bar and a conveyor belt that automatically adjusts its height to make it easier for children to load and unload the lift. Thanks to the Yepi lift, skiers enjoy a better connection between the Passo Eira (2210m), which has a children's area, and the top station of the Mottolino gondola. The second new lift, the "Easy lift", is a button lift connecting the gondola to the Trepalle chairlift. This facilitates access to the practice slopes often used by the ski school.

Ski-link service between Mottolino and Carosello 3000

Livigno has yet to link its two ski areas by ski slope, but starting this season, the ski resort implemented a popular ski shuttle that ferries skiers and snowboarders efficiently from one ski area to the other. The north line connects the Mottolino ski area with the Valandrea chairlift, while the south line takes skiers from the Carosello 3000 to the Teola-Pianoni Bassi chairlift. Buses run every ten minutes from 9:30am until 4pm.

Also new in 2018/19:

  • The Beach funslope: This 1600m-long funslope is one of the longest in the world. The funslope brings the laid-back atmosphere of the beach, with its palm trees, coconuts and surfboards, to the high-altitude Alps in an adventure for young and old alike!
  • Cross-country night skiing: Livigno offers cross-country skiing on 5km of floodlit trails every night until 10pm.

Carosello 3000 gondola

The new Carosello 3000 gondola was inaugurated last winter amid much fanfare. It took just 206 days to build, in an amazing display of cooperation between local construction companies and international lift companies. Because Livigno's ski season is so long and the summer is so short, workers were at it on evenings and weekends in order to build the lift in time for the start of ski season. All the effort was worth it - the new lift whisks skiers and snowboarders to an altitude of 2749m in just 10 minutes. It travels at 6 m/s and contains a total of 68 10-person cabins.

More info: Livigno ski area

The tax-free haven of Livigno is located on the Swiss-Italian border and is one of the highest ski areas in the region, meaning excellent snow cover all winter long. With 115km of slopes spread across both sides of the valley and connected by ski bus, at Livigno it's possible to ski in the sun all day long! Livigno is well-known for its off-piste terrain (which you can access by helicopter if the budget permits!) and in recent years has put an emphasis on developing its freeriding scene. Its three snow parks are also quite popular with freestyle skiers and snowboarders. The pedestrianised village centre offers a lively après-ski scene and an assortment of tax-free shops to peruse after your a day on the slopes.
