A ski holiday isn’t a ski holiday without après-ski, and we can all thank Austria for propelling this once-tame tradition into an all-out party scene! Once you’ve chosen your ski resort based on the best ski resorts in the Alps for après-ski, you’ll need to know which bars in town to hit up. The good news? We’ve got you covered, with a list of the best après-ski bars in the Alps. They’re listed in no particular order, as most of us can’t usually think straight enough after a night of après-ski to give a 100% clear and objective rating. But you can rest assured you’ll find a rockin’ party at any one of these joints!

Mooserwirt, St. Anton am Arlberg

Credited with kickstarting the après-ski scene in Europe, the Mooserwirt at St. Anton am Arlberg has kept the party going ever since and remains one of Europe’s most legendary après-ski institutions to this day. It’s located directly on the slopes, of course, which leads to some interesting evenings involving drunken revellers and a tangle of skis.

Goassstall, Hinterglemm

Repeatedly voted the most popular après-ski bar in the Alps, Hinterglemm's Goassstall offers litres of beer on tap and random goats – yes, goats. You won’t believe til you see it, so come on over and check it out for yourself!

La Folie Douce, Val Thorens

France isn’t the first country that comes to mind when you think of après-ski, but La Folie Douce is the nation’s answer to anybody who dares to claim they don’t know how to party. With locations at Val Thorens, Alpe d'Huez and other famous ski resorts in the French Alps, Val Thorens is Europe’s coolest open-air club.

Almrausch, Sölden

We at Snowplaza can vouch for the Almrausch at Sölden-Hochsölden: a small, steamy pub where you’ll make instant friends by bonding over corny song lyrics. The Almrausch is hidden behind a large wooden door; push through it and lose yourself in the music.

La Grotte du Yeti, Les Deux Alpes

Students and party animals will have fond, albeit blurry, memories of La Grotte du Yeti, otherwise known as the Yetibar. Present in a dozen ski resort towns, La Grotte du Yeti is infamous for its après-ski parties. We recommend the location in Les Deux Alpes.

Krazy Kanguruh, St. Anton

The yin to the Mooserwirt’s yang, the Krazy Kanguruh was just as fundamental in starting the Austrian après-ski scene. The Krazy Kanguruh has seen its fair share of debauchery in the day and seems in no danger of letting up. A must-see if you’re in St. Anton.

Cin Cin, Gerlos

THE place to party in Gerlos, Cin Cin welcomes hordes of skiers still in their ski boots as they come pouring off the slopes at the end of the day. Cheesy après-ski hits, check. Sweaty bodies pressed together, check. Classic Austrian-themed décor, check. It’s a wrap!

Le Rond Point, Méribel

Beloved Méribel's Rond Point – aka the Ronnie – is a British favourite. Its location right on the main piste makes it easy to justify swinging by for a toffee vodka at the end of the ski day. Beware, one drink quickly turns into one dozen as you dance the night away to top DJs.

Ice Bar, Mayrhofen

Don’t trip over the polar bear on your way into Mayrhofen's Ice Bar! This popular bar near the Penkenbahn fills up quick, so get here early and let the party begin.

About Danielle

Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
