Ski season is upon us

Stoked for the beginning of ski season? We are too! And so are many Alpine ski resorts, with event calendars jam-packed in anticipation of another great year. During the end of November and beginning of December as ski resorts continue to open for the season, there is no shortage of events in France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy to celebrate the start of the ski season. In addition to the traditional outdoor concerts and après-ski parties, be sure to check out unique events such as the fondue party at Les Arcs or the Fashion Weekend at Zermatt! We've gathered a list of the hottest events in the Alps for the ski season opening this year. But if you've been paying attention, you'll have noticed quite a few ski resorts opening sooner than planned thanks to the heavy snowfall across France, Austria, Germany and Switzerland over the last few weeks. Ischgl kicks off ski season with Top of the Mountain Concert

On November 25, Ischgl will celebrate the ski season opening with a classic Top of the Mountain Concert, this time featuring Andrea Berg. The concert will take place on a breathtaking outdoor stage in the village centre. The first slopes at the Silvretta Arena will open a few days prior to the concert. First Tracks at Val d’Isère

Val d’Isère celebrates the season opening on November 25 with the return of the Ski Force Winter Tour, featuring free demos of the newest models by major ski and snowboard brands such as Atomic, Rossignol and Volkl. Sign up here and check out the current conditions at Val d’Isère.

La Grande Première at Val Thorens

Likewise, Val Thorens will offer equipment demo testing by 57 ski and snowboard brands for their opening weekend on November 25-26. The event will conclude with a concert. Check out the current conditions at Val Thorens.

Live concerts kick off ski season at St. Anton and Lech

The ski season officially starts on December 1 at St. Anton and Lech Zürs am Arlberg, when skiers and snowboarders flock here for a live concert at St. Anton featuring Revolverheld and Gregor Meyle, plus theatrical 'disco gondolas' at Lech Zürs. St. Anton and Lech have both enjoyed copious amounts of snow recently – check out the current conditions.

Obertauern: Ski opening with Andreas Bourani

Andreas Bourani will kick off the ski season at Obertauern on December 2, although the ski area plans to open this Wednesday in wake of all the snow they received this past weekend. Check out the current conditions at Obertauern.

BERGFESTival at Saalbach-Hinterglemm

One of the biggest ski season opening events in the Alps takes place at Saalbach-Hinterglemm. From December 8-10, the Skicircus will come alive with the annual BERGFESTival. Performing artists this year include Bosse, Christian Stürmer, Stadgeflüster and WANDA. The clubs and mountain huts will all have their own entertainment as well. Opening party at Courchevel

For the start of ski season on December 9, Courchevel will throw a 'chamallows party' with a live DJ and hot drinks, followed by a concert by pop-rock group Noiz. Check out current conditions at Courchevel.

Alta Badia: Gourmet ski safari with top chefs

On December 10, Alta Badia will once again bring together the top chefs from the best ski resorts in the world for a gourmet ski safari. Skiers and snowboarders can travel from hut to mountain hut to taste the delicacies. The ski slopes will open one week prior – check the current conditions at Alta Badia.

Zermatt: Fashion Weekend at the Matterhorn

The third edition of Zermatt Fashion Weekend will take place in Zermatt from December 14-17. The exclusive event is an original blend of fashion, funky beats and culinary art. Young designers and major brands will showcase their latest collections on a spectacular catwalk with a view of the Matterhorn. Check out the current conditions at Zermatt.

RISE&FALL competition opens ski season at Mayrhofen

A truly unique relay race, the RISE&FALL event at Mayrhofen combines ski touring, paragliding, mountain biking and skiing in an adrenaline-filled rush to the finish. Parties, concerts and live acts will reward the participants and their loyal supporters. The event takes place on Decmeber 16 but Mayrhofen will be open for skiing as of the end of November – check out the current conditions.

Les fondus du ski at Les Arcs

Indulge yourself at Les fondus du ski, Les Arcs’ special way of heralding in the new ski season on Decemebr 16-17. Mouthwatering fondus will be on offer at select TBA locations. The event is rounded off with après-ski parties and film screenings in anticipation of Les Arcs European Film Festival, which takes place shortly after. Check out the current conditions at Les Arcs.

Rise Festival at Les 2 Alpes

From December 16-23, Les 2 Alpes will throw a week-long bash with music, adventure and lots and lots of snow! The Rise Festival, self-proclaimed ‘party on top of the world’, features a neverending list of DJs and additional events. For an alternative to flying, there is also a coach that shuttles partygoers from the UK to Les 2 Alpes. The ski area opens on December 2 with free testing of demo equipment by Decathlon.
