Castle Mountain Resort in short

  • 2 ½ hour drive from Calgary Airport
  • Ski-in, ski-out accommodation
  • Short lift queues

Situated in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada, Castle Mountain Resort has almost 100km of ski slopes for all levels. Despite the generous terrain, it’s mostly all about the skiing and snowboarding here, and the base area is quite small. While it’s possible to stay in ski-in, ski-out accommodation right on the mountain, many people choose to find a hotel in one of the the neighbouring towns of Beaver Mines, Pincher Creek or Crowsnest Pass (gotta love those Canadian names, eh?).

Castle Mountain Resort has retained a strong sense of community and the ski resort is very family-friendly, with uncrowded slopes and a welcoming atmosphere. If you’re all about the skiing and snowboarding this is the place for you - no need to drive half an hour after your ski day, just grab a cup of hot cocoa at the base restaurant and snuggle up in your ski-in, ski-out holiday rental. The easiest way to get here from Calgary International Airport is to rent a car; Castle Mountain has free parking. Although the ski resort base area is tiny, you'll find a general store at Beaver Mines and a public swimming pool at Pincher Creek.

Alternate activities

Castle Mountain offers catskiing and snowshoeing, and there are 45km of crosscountry skiing trails in the area. For a non-skiing option, consider a scenic tour in a snowcat. Nearby Pincher Creek has a swimming pool with a hot tub, and you’ll find shops at both Pincher Creek and Beaver Mines.

Restaurants and bars

There is a small base area at Castle Mountain with a cafe, a pub and a cafeteria. The T-Bar Pub is your best bet for après-ski. For more extensive dining options, head to Pincher Creek or Beaver Mines.

Castle Mountain Resort is a friendly place for kids to learn how to ski or snowboard, with beginner’s zones at the bottom and a user-friendly layout. Childcare is available for children 18 months and up. If you’re ambitious, ski lessons at Castle Mountain Resort are also available for children as young as 18 months old - don’t ask us to promise the results will be very impressive! Kids aged 9-12 can develop specialised freeride and freestyle skills in the All Mountain Explorers Club.
