10 New Year's Resolutions for skiers and snowboarders

It’s the start of a new year for skiers and snowboarders all around the world, and the perfect time to set yourself some snow-related New Year's Resolutions! Will you ski a black piste for the first time in your life? Invest in a new pair of skis? Take lessons and perfect your skiing technique? Here are ten ideas for skiing- and snowboarding-related new year’s resolutions.

1. Ski more

There’s no such thing as too much skiing or snowboarding. Go ahead, try it! We guarantee you’ll agree (just don’t look at your bank account balance afterwards). The only side effect might be an increase in positive emotions. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Just a few simple exercises can help you get in shape for ski season

2. Get fit

We all know the feeling: suddenly it’s time for your ski holiday and a panicky feeling sets in: when was the last time you did any serious exercise? You have foggy memories of last year’s ski holiday, when you swore to yourself that you would get in shape before setting foot on the slopes again... so what happened? Don’t let this be you this year! Check out simple exercises for getting in shape and seize control of your ski form!

3. Improve your skiing or snowboarding technique

You can get down every piste, but god forbid anyone should be watching, because your form is certainly not winning any prizes! On the lift on the way up, you’re well used to scoping out the picture-perfect skiers swooping down the slopes. They make it look so easy! Well, this can be you too. Check out our blog posts on skiing technique and consider booking some lessons. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes!

4. Tackle your first black piste

You’ve been skiing for a few years now and the times when you struggled to get down the nursery slope seem far behind you. But that’s no reason to get complacent! If you’re comfortable on the blues and reds, try challenging yourself to tackle a black slope. Practise your turns on easier slopes during the first few days of your ski holiday and by the end of the week you should be confident enough to try a black slope. 5. Cross a skiing destination off your bucket list

Always wanted to see the Matterhorn, or the Norwegian fjords, or ski the deep powder snow in Canada’s Rocky Mountains? Make your ski holiday dreams come true in 2019 by booking a trip to your ultimate bucket list destination!

A ski holiday in Norway is an experience not to be missed

6. Improve your ski holiday diet

This is a common post-holiday resolution: cut down on the calories! In the case of a ski holiday, this means less Kaiserschmarrn, less Tiroler Gröstl and less cheese fondue. Not sounding like a very attractive resolution? Maybe consider only indulging in these delicious alpine specialties when you’ve really earned it. Like, after completing your first-ever black run.

7. Buy yourself a new snowboard or skis

Are you still using the ancient straight skis? Or do you loathe having to queue for rental equipment at the start of every ski holiday? It’s time to invest in a new pair of brand-new skis! If you already have a good pair of all-mountain skis, why not consider treating yourself to a specialty pair to complement them – powder, or twintip, for example?

8. Learn to ski or snowboard

Are you a die-hard skier? A fanatic snowboarder? Do you take part in lengthy debates about what’s better, skiing or snowboarding, and would you defend your snow sport of choice to the death? This is the year you finally take the leap and find out why the other side is so obsessed with their sport!

You're never too old to learn to ski or snowboard

9. Book your ski holiday earlier

There’s no time like the present to book your next ski holiday. Usually by booking early, you can find cheaper plane tickets, cheaper accommodation and even deals on ski passes.

About Danielle

Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
