Ischgl ski resort plans new 6-seat chairlift for 2018/2019 season

Ski resorts work around the year to improve their facilities, and the Silvretta Arena Ischgl-Samnaun is no exception. This summer, the popular Austrian-Swiss ski resort is planning major upgrades, replacing an obsolete old quad with a modern 6-seat lift. At the valley station of this new lift, Ischgl also plans to open a new mountain restaurant, thereby providing even more options for hungry skiers and snowboarders. The “Gampenbahn” is expected to be functional in time for the 2018/2019 ski season. Read on for more details about the construction of the lift, plus technical facts and figures.

New Gampenbahn will replace old quad chair

The new lift will replace the old quad chairlift, in operation since 1988, which transported skiers and snowboarders from the Gampenalp to the Palinkopf. Starting in the 2018/2019 ski season, the Silvretta Arena Ischgl-Samnaun will inaugurate a new, more modern 6-seat bubble chairlift with heated seats. The existing lift line will remain practically the same, although the valley station will be transplanted about 30m down. The new height difference of 924m will be the longest ever accomplished by the Doppelmayr lift company in a lift of this type.

Gampenbahn will be faster and have increased carrying capacity

Ischgl’s new lift will also be slightly faster, transporting winter sporters to the top in just 8 minutes instead of 9. This increases lift capacity from 2200 to 2800 people per hour. A conveyor belt will assist skiers in getting on the lift, and the ride will be ultra-comfortable even in adverse weather conditions thanks to the bubble and heated seats.

In an interview with Snowplaza, Hannes Parth, managing director of Silvretta Seilbahnen, stated that the menu at this group-friendly lodge will focus on casual dishes such as burgers.
