Hochzillertal is part of one of Austria's most famous winter sports areas. The Zillertal ski area was one of the first areas which developed on the wave of mass winter sports tourism across the Alps. The gentle hills are interspersed with up-to-date ski lifts leading to a seemingly endless ski area at high altitude. The small village of Kaltenbach, in Hochzillertal, is quite convenient compared to the neighbouring villages of Mayrhofen and Fügen.

Out of the 200km of slopes in this ski area, 121km are red runs making this area a real paradise for intermediate skiers, where plenty of challenges await to ensure progress is made. Don't worry though, out of the 200km of slopes, everyone has a good share of the mountain. There are plenty of romantic ski lodges and cosy alpine inns where you can take a break and taste some local specialties. The wide valley also offers excellent attractions for cross-country ski lovers.
