South of Heiligenblut is the municipality of Großkirchheim. This place is not actually a ski resort, but it has a long cross-country ski network and a very good bus service to Heiligenblut. Großkirchheim is less isolated than Mallnitz and is therefore better suited as a starting point for the whole area. There various alternative winter sports, such as an ice skating rink, an 'ice-climbing garden' and hiking trails through the beautiful natural surroundings.
