On the border of France and Switzerland, lies the cozy ski resort of Les Rousses in the Jura, at an altitude of 1107 meters above sea level. The village was founded in the sixteenth century and has a few historical sites such as the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, Saint Pierre Church and the Fort des Rousses (second largest fortress in France) which are all worth visiting on a day off from the ski slopes. Another attraction in Les Rousses is the ski museum. A nice trip is a visit to La Cure, a small hamlet that is divided between Les Rousses and the Swiss town of Saint-Cergue.
Les Rousses has its own ski area offering skiing for all levels but alos offers the chance to try different activities, including dog sledding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, as well as indoor activities such as a cinema, a swimming pool and a library. Les Rousses Fort is one of the largest cheese cellars in Europe so if you are a fan of good cheeses, this is a must during your ski holiday! The entire tour of the cellars takes an hour. The villages around Les Rousses are also worth visiting. These are the villages of Premanon, Lamoura and Bois d'amont. Each village has its own museum and a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere.
