Auron in short
-
Height: 1600 metres
The village of Auron was founded in the year 607 and was named after Saint Erige (Aurigius in Latin). 1330 years later in 1937, the first ski lift was opened in the village. Auron is a particularly popular ski resort with the people of Nice as it is only 1 hour and 30 minutes away by car! Today, the old village still exists and although it has become surrounded by larger apartment blocks to accommodate ski holiday tourist, there is a pleasant balance between old and new here. When the weather is good, you can catch a glimpse of the stunning lake Lac de Serre-Ponçon down in the Vallée d'Embrun.
Auron is situated at 1140m of altitude and the village is directly linked to its own ski area via the Pinatelle cablecar. Do not miss its rich religious patrimony and its interesting museums. There is an ice rink and a cinema right in the centre of the resort and a wellness centre where you an ease away those aches and pains after a long day on the slopes. Auron offers everything you could want for a relaxed, friendly ski holiday.
