Respect the Mountains Envirotrek Mountain Clean Up 2013

In recent years, increased attention has been made to preserving the environment and encouraging the general public’s responsible actions and approach to the mountain environment. "Respect the Mountains' is an organization dedicated to keeping the mountains clean which organizes the Envirotrek event each year, in five different countries, during June and July. This event aims at raising awareness about sustainable tourism, in particular among the younger population, in the form of a competition to collect waste. A fantastic, fun day and a chance to enjoy the mountains at their best and do your bit to keep them in great shape.

Why Envirotrek?

Each year the European Alps welcome around 100 million visitors, many of which, unfortunately, leave traces in the form of waste. The Envirotrek events act in a fun way by organizing a competition to collect this waste, with prizes distributed at the end of the competition. Equipped with a rubbish bag and grabber, everyone tries to collect the largest amount of waste and then fun prizes are awarded, such as "most original waste found” at the end of the afternoon. This is an excellent activity for families who want to raise awareness and encourage their children to be environmentally friendly with the aim that being “green” becomes second nature!

Where can you join in the Envirotrek Clean Up 2013?

Maybe you have already been involved in one of the events in the UK? Well the word has spread across the Channel… Below is a list of this years’ Envirotrek locations:

  • 09-7 Mayrhofen-Hippach, Austria
  • 20-7 Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany

A typical Envirotrek day

The day starts around 9.30am when all participants are armed with a rubbish bag and grabber and health and safety protection gear and are let loose in teams to collect as much rubbish as possible in 2 hours. After all this strenuous activity, a well-earned lunch, in the form of a delicious barbecue, is then served for all participants and this becomes a convivial moment where you meet other like-minded mountain lovers. The rest of the day generally consists of fun activities such as sea kayaking, mountain biking, GPS tracking, etc (depending on the location) and the day generally ends around 4pm.

A small contribution

A registration fee of €10 per person is charged which includes your lunch, an Envirotrek t-shirt and the various free activities in the afternoon. The places get booked up quickly as they are very limited so sign up now if you want to join in the fun. For more information, visit the official website. About Nikki

Being lucky enough to have parents who were crazy about skiing, my love for the mountains started when I was 4 years old on our first family ski holiday to Austrian ski resort of Obergurl. One ski holiday a year was never enough and tears rolled down my face as I looked out the back window of the car on the drive down the valley on the way home!
