Snow line in Alpine glacier ski resorts drops to 2400 metres

Fresh snow in the Alps in June

After a brief hot spell this month, temperatures have dropped again this week in some of the alpine glacier ski resorts of Austria and Switzerland. The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier received a dump of fresh snow on Monday, while Zermatt and the Hintertux Glacier also saw negative temperatures and beautiful skiing weather in the first half of this week. The snow line dropped as low as 2400m in some places and further precipitation is expected in the next few days, although it is not clear whether it will come in the form of rain or snow. Looks like there’s hope of another stellar ski season in 2018/19!

Colder temperatures bring fresh snow to the Alps

This week started out refreshingly cool at Europe’s glacier ski resorts, with lows down to -5 C at Hintertux in Austria and down to -8 C at Zermatt in Switzerland. Today looks to be more or less the last day of good weather before more rain is expected – although if the cold temperatures hold, we may see more snow still later in the week.

About Danielle

Born and raised in the ski paradise of Vancouver, Canada, I learned to ski before I can remember, balancing precariously on my parents’ skis as they sailed down the hill. I started snowboarding in my teens and am now delighted to be exploring everything Europe’s ski scene has to offer!
