Keystone in short

  • Height: 2830 metres
  • Skiing possible until 9pm
  • Relatively high prices
  • Versatile skiing

Keystone, Colorado is located in the White River National Forest, nestled in the majestic Rocky Mountains. Seven different "neighbourhoods" spread across the peacks of Dercum Mountain, North Peak and the Outback offer around 140km of ski slopes to explore, with a vertical drop of almost 1000m. Keystone's ski area gets an average of almost 6 metres of snow annually and like at most North American ski resorts, the off-piste terrain here is incredible. The dark woods of Colorado are home to a wealth of natural attractions that are just waiting to be explored.

Some of the Keystone neighbourhoods have a few shops and restaurants, others do not have much more than a hotel and some apartments. A free ski bus service runs frequently between them and connects skiers and snowboarders to the ski areas. If you like to party hard you're in the wrong place in Keystone. The evenings are very peaceful here, making this ski resort the perfect choice for relaxing ski holidays. Keystone is just a short drive away from Denver International Airport, which has direct flights to the UK. Powder snow, Rocky Mountains, luxurious accommodations and all the pampering: if you're looking for a quintessentially American skiing experience, Keystone Resort ticks all the boxes.

“I had the opportunity to visit Keystone on a business trip to Colorado. We only skied one day here but it seemed there was lots of intermediate skiing that is well serviced by lifts. We tried night skiing in Keystone which was simply delightful an...”

Ski area

A good portion of the Keystone ski area is located below the treeline and offers gladed skiing. Higher up there are powder-filled bowls and challenging steeps. The Dercum mountain consists mainly of green and blue runs and is ideal for beginners and relaxed skiers. Beginners can get their ski legs (pardon the pun) on the long Family Ski Trail and Schoolmarm runs. Over at North Peak, there are more steep slopes and this mountain is favoured by many experienced skiers. In The Outback you will find many different powder descents perfect for off-piste skiing, including snowcat-accessed terrain. Keystone is part of the Vail Resorts group, and an Epic ski pass also grants access to nearby Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek.

Freestyling at Keystone

The award-winning A-51 snow park offers immense challenges for riders of all levels. The snow park is divided into six areas with a total of more than 100 features. Among these you'll find jumps, boxes, rails and even halfpipes of varying difficulty levels. If you prefer a slower speed, take to your cross-country skis or go winter hiking in the beautiful snowy landscapes. Several guided snowshoe tours are organized from the Keystone Nordic Centre. Off the slopes at Keystone you'll also find snow tubing, ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides and a luxurious spa to soothe those aching muscles.

Kids ski free

Families will be delighted to hear that kids ski free until the age of 12, every day of the season, when the family books lodging at Keystone! Childcare is available for children starting from the age of 2 months, including non-skiing options for when the kids are tuckered out. Private and group ski lessons are available for kids aged 3-14 years old. Keystone's free "Kidtopia" days are full of fun activities like snowball fights and adventure walks to keep the little ones entertained. All in all, family activities at Keystone promise to be easy and successful. The long journey will be more than worth it!
