The beautiful historic village of Formiguères (at 1500m above sea level) in the Pyrenees has always been a favorite holiday destination - but only in recent years for ski holidays. The kings of Mallorca were among the first to come to Formiguères and more and more tourists are discovering the village each year for its great position regarding the nearby ski area. The old village of Formiguères is still very peaceful and picturesque.
The village of Formiguères is a true gem among the mountains. Old houses and beautiful Spanish-style churches dominate the townscape. The village has two beautiful old churches, dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries. Previously Formiguères was the historic capital of Capcir. The original village is now best known for its adjacent ski area. There is a free ski shuttle back and forth between the village and the ski area. The village has several restaurants and a few bars and occasionally there are events such as disco-skiing organised here. Formiguères is a lovely village for peaceful familiy ski holidays and for beginner skiers.
