Cauterets is one of the most beautiful ski resorts in the Pyrenees. The village is both a spa and a ski resort. Cauterets is surrounded by mountains and situated in the narrow valley of the Gave de Cauterets where there are many small lakes and beautiful frozen waterfalls that give this area a fairytale atmosphere. There is a casino in Cauterets as well as a good choice of restaurants and bars. Lourdes airport is only a 1-hour drive away making Cauterets a great choice of ski resort for weekend skiing.
In the village of Cauterets, there are many buildings built in the nineteenth-century architectural style, with large monumental and colourful facades. During the Renaissance, Cauterets was a popular spa town and remained so until the late nineteenth century. The village is still well-known as a health resort, but most tourists come for the skiing and snowboarding. Cauterets has some beautiful attractions, including a lovely church with a famous organ, the beautiful train station of Cauterets, the cable car that was built by the team of Gustave Eiffel, the Baths of Caesar and the boulevard Latapie - Flurin with a number of historic buildings. A wonderful place to stroll around after a day of skiing or snowboarding.
