Austria has been inundated with snow over the past few days, especially in southern and eastern Tyrol. The snow is welcomed by skiers and snowboarders but has caused chaos in the mountains. Wet and heavy, the snow has many ski resorts on avalanche alert and has even caused avalanches in some villages. Our colleagues Yvonne and Miranda are currently "stuck" in Obergurgl thanks to closed roads in the Ötztal. Here's our full snowed-in report, live from Gurgl!... Read more ›

val gardena

The Ski Safari is off on the road again and here is the first ski report from the first stop in Val Gardena in Italy. March is, in our opinion, the best month for skiing. Plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures and long days and if you’re lucky some fresh snow. The Germans even have a special term for it: "Sonnenskilauf” which literally means “sun skiing”. And that is exactly what our Ski Safari reporters are enjoying this week in Val Gardena. ... Read more ›

The Snowplaza Ski Safari would not be complete without a couple of days in St Anton in Austria. According to the locals, this popular ski resort is the cradle of modern skiing and they are certainly very proud of the fact. Today St Anton is a modern, world-class ski resort with an international clientele searching for the perfect ski holidays. Everything positive you read about this ski resort is true but our Ski Safari team would just like to add a few minor caveats in their honest report after... Read more ›

The SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental ski area is the largest interconnected ski area in Austria. With around 280 km of slopes, there is more than enough choice for a week’s skiing? The few days that the Snowplaza Ski Safari spent there at the end of last week were definitely not enough to test all the runs, but they got a good impression and reported back from the slopes.... Here’s the latest Ski Safari report from the Austrian ski resort of Kirchberg. Kirchberg is a bustling resort with cozy apres-ski and a good all round ski area with access to other well-known ski areas. It’s easy to understand why this Austrian ski resort is so popular with Dutch skiers and snowboarders. Thousands come annually to this charming ski resort in the Kitzbühel Alps to enjoy good skiing and some very Dutch apres-ski in the local bars. The Ski Safari journalists report back on why Kirc... Flachau is a popular ski holiday destination in Austria well worth getting to know. What makes this resort and its ski area so attractive? Well the Snowplaza Ski Safari team recently visited Flachau and reported back on why this is a great resort for family ski holidays or relaxed ski holidays with friends. The first stop of the Snowplaza Ski Safari was Flachau in Austria. This popular ski resort opened some of its ski lifts last Friday. This was a week later than planned due to lack of snow – but just in time for the Snowplaza Ski Safari team who arrived on Sunday! Although the valley was still dressed in autumn clothing, the mountain was wearing its white blanket and pistes that were open were in good condition. The snow making teams had been working 24/7! folie douce teaser

Having often, rather relunctantly, skied on past this type of venue for fear of spending my week’s budget on one lunch, I was recently very pleasantly surprised by La Folie Douce in Meribel! The large sunny terrace with it’s huge bar, brightly-coloured cushions, views to blow your socks off and a generally luxury look about it, would have set off all the holiday budget alarm bells! However, recently on a ski holiday in Courchevel with a large group of old friends, I very happily parked my skis a... Read more ›
