Kandersteg is located at the end of the Kander valley at 1200 m of altitude. The slopes here are modest in number but nicely laid out. On one side of the village is a chairlift to the Oeschinen ski area with two lifts. On the other side of the village is the gondola to the Sunnbüel ski area with three lifts. In total this makes 13 kilometers of slopes. On both sides of the village there are 3000m-high peaks which offer great ski touring possibilities. There are 75 kilometers of cross-country trails in total. Around Kandersteg are eight hiking trails and paths which are regularly prepared. In total there are 30 kilometers of walking trails.
This tranquil resort in Switzerland is characterized by the wide variety of wooden chalets. The ski area of Kandersteg can be easily reached by car due to its conveniant location. Despite the rise in number of visitors who come here every winter to enjoy the pristine landscapes, the village has managed to retain its original character. During your stay in Kandersteg you must visit the Oeschinen Lake and the Blue Lake. Two impressive mountain lakes covered in a thick layer of ice.
