Garmisch Partenkirchen has a long skiing history dating back to the 1930's. The ski area is situated at the foot of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. Here numerous cultural and sporting activities are organised. In the vicinity of Garmisch Partenkirchen there are many interesting sites to visit. The ski slopes of the Zugspitze (2964m) in the Garmisch Classic ski area have contributed to making this ski area renowned worldwide. The cable car and the railway take skiers up to the runs in no time at all!

The Garmisch Classic ski area offers 60km of extremely varied ski slopes with guaranteed snow. There are many highlights here, including skiing on the glacier, wide valley runs, beautiful hiking trails and an overwhelming four-country view from the summit with a 360 degree panorama. The Garmisch Classic ski slopes are predominantly of medium difficulty and are generally long - up to 6.5 km long. The most difficult run is the almost 4 km-long Kandahar World Cup run that most experienced skiers just have to have a go at when in Garmisch. Cross-country skiers and winter hikers have over 170km of trails to explore in the Garmisch-Classic ski region.
