Keep calm, it's been snowing! Reporting live from the French Alps...

Keep calm, it's been snowing! The pistes won’t ALL be green this winter! The most important news in the past few days is that is has been snowing in the French Alps. One of Snowplaza’s reporters visited the 2 French ski resorts of Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes and actually witnessed fresh snow falling!!! Although there’s not enough snow yet in Les Deux Alpes to allow a return to the resort on skis, Alpe d’Huez has been lucky and has snow cover right down to the resort centre. So keep calm and don’t cancel your ski holidays!

Les Deux Alpes has fresh snow

Keep calm - our Snowplaza reporter was in Les Deux Alpes yesterday to witness fresh snow falling! By the end of the day there were a few centimeters on the ground, which although not enough to allow skiers to return to the village on skis, it was certainly enough to lift everyone’s spirits! Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to enjoy the stunning views at 3,600 meters but this didn’t matter a bit! The piste conditions were hard snow with a sprinkling of fresh snow and everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that the valley runs down to Les Deux Alpes will be open soon.

L'Alpe d'Huez must have a lucky star

You can certainly keep calm if you have booked your Christmas ski holidays in Alpe d'Huez! Our reporter was there 2 days ago and said that the snow conditions are just fine and the lack of snow in the Alps is certainly not obvious here. The pistes back to the resort were open, the sun was shining and the snow on the glacier was good. Perfect ski holiday conditions! With the approaching Christmas holidays the entire ski area might be opened just in time. Alpe d'Huez is situated at an altitude of 1860 meters and fortunately has slopes as high as 3330 meters (at the Pic Blanc) and there is, of course, a glacier too. At the end of the day skiing back down to the resort with views over green landscapes was apparently a strange experience! Alpe d'Huez is currently one of only 3 ski resorts in the French Alps, where it is possible to ski back down to the village!

About Gareth

Skiing was something that was sort of forced on me as a child. When my parents signed me up for the school ski trip when I was 11, I think I sulked for a whole month! However, I have no idea how to thank them as I haven’t looked back since!
